5 Reasons Why Call Of Duty Warzone Is Shutting Down

1 years ago By AI Smith

Activision announced that it is discontinuing the original version of its popular free-to-play battle royale game, Call of Duty: Warzone. The game will officially shut down on September 21, 2023. But why did Activision take that step? Here are five reasons why we think Call Of Duty Warzone is shutting down.

Why Is Call of Duty Warzone Shutting Down?

Focus on New Projects

Activision in its press release stated that they are discontinuing the game to focus on new projects. The developer is one of the leading developers that is constantly working on new projects. They have been focusing more on developing new games in the Call of Duty and Warcraft franchises leaving relatively less resources available to support Warzone.

Duration

One of the possible reasons could be that the game is getting old. Call Of Duty Warzone was first released in 2020, and has been running for over 3 years now. That’s a long time in the world of video game. Video Games generally have a lifespan of 2-3 years before players start losing interest. The same could be the case with Call Of Duty Warzone.

Call Of Duty Warzone 2

Call Of Duty Warzone 2 released in November 202 by Activision was a new version of the game built on a new engine featuring a new map. Several players have switched on to Warzone 2.0, decreasing the player base of the original Warzone.

Cheating attempts

Call Of Duty Warzone was reportedly struggling with cheaters. The game has been a hotspot for cheaters since its release. These Cheaters make use of third-party software to gain an unfair advantage over other players. This has made the game very frustrating for legitimate players, and it has driven many of them away.

Lack of Updates

Call Of Duty Warzone has not been updated as frequently as it used to be and should be. In the initial days after its release, Activision released new content updates regularly. However, in the past few months, the updates have become less frequent, leading to some players feeling like the game is no longer being supported.
