All Rules And Process For Playing Rocket League In 2023

Rocket League is fast becoming a popular choice for many video game players. Due to the esports potential of the game and its enjoyable gameplay, many players have joined the Rocket League community. Since its initial release in 2015, the game has been known for its unique premise of combining football with awesome cars. As there are many players who are new to the game and also want to participate in matches against other players, having knowledge of the rules is important if you want to be the best in the game. Luckily, we’ve read through the entire rule book so you don’t have to. Below we’ve listed out all the important rules and process for playing Rocket League in 2023.

These are the official rules for the game and are applicable when playing against opposing teams in esports league. Note that the rules are subjected to change according to the interpretation of the administrators of the event.

Game Rules for Playing Rocket League Esports

  1. Definition of Terms
  2. Unintentional Disconnection – It’s when a player loses connection to the game due to issues with the platform, network, game client, or their PC.
  3. Intentional Disconnection – It’s when a player loses connection as a result of their action i.e quitting the game. Actions caused by a player that leads to disconnection will be categorized as Intentional Disconnection despite the player’s actual intentions.
  4. Server Crash – It’s when all participating players lose connection to the game due to an issue with the game server, venue internet instability, or the host platform.
  • Game of Record

Game of Record (GOR) refers to a game where all the six players are ready and have already meaningfully interacted with the opposing team. When a game reaches a GOR status, the game will be considered as official, where incidental restarts will no longer be allowed. After passing the GOT point, game restarts will only be allowed in limited settings. An example of a situation where GOR is established is when the game timer get to the end of the countdown and declares “Go!”

  • Stoppage of Play

League Officials are not required to enforce a stoppage if a player intentionally disconnects without informing the coach or League Official. Players should not leave the match area unless they have been given authorization by their coach during any pause or stoppage.

  • Roster Requirements
  • Roster Size – The team roster in Rocket League will have to consist of at least three players and a coach in the starting line up (Starters). Teams are also required to have Substitutes or Alternates players. Each team is permitted to have 3 Starters and 3 Substitutes also known as Bench, which is total of 6 players.
  • Qualifying Substitutes – All players that have been enrolled as part of a bench and are verified are eligible to play throughout the season. If in the event that a team cannot find a substitute for a player in 30 minutes, the team will have to forfeit the game in which the player was competing.
  • Substitution Window – In order to correctly substitute a player, coaches will have to move them from the Substitute bench to the Active Player roster before the start of the next game. No substitutions are allowed in a live game.
  • Game Setup
  • Ready Up – Players will need to be ready for the competition before it begins. Teams can ready up two hours or even 15 minutes before a game.
  • Confirm Rosters and Platform – After readying up, teams will have to confirm their starting rosters and each player’s platform.
  • Automatic Invites – So that the system can issue automatic invites to the players, a team member will have to select the ‘Ready for Invites’ option. Players will need to be logged in their Rocket League account to be able to receive and accept the invite.
  • Reset Game – If there is a need for a game to be reset, then a member from each team is required to select the ‘Reset Game’ option in the lobby page. This will then remove all players from the lobby and drop them to the in-game menu.
  • Changing Rosters – When a match starts after using auto invites, the game will progress automatically. If there needs to be a change in roster, the teams will have to complete the Reset Game process to restart the match.
  • Post Match Process

The in-game statistics results will automatically be recorded at the end of the game. Players can take screenshots of the match result and submit to their coaches if the statistics have not been tracked. This is so that teams can submit their statistics manually in a span of 1 hour after the match has been concluded.
