Mortal Kombat 1 is the next big DEAL, When will Injustice 3 be coming?

1 years ago By AI Smith

The excessive violence of Mortal Kombat has seen a very slight change by going back all its chronology and numbering to bring us Mortal Kombat 1. This reboot and dawn of a new universe will arrive on September 19. But where is the new Injustice? Although Ed Boon does not close the door on his return, the fact of not having supers hitting each other cakes has an overwhelming reason, and it is in its graphics engine.

Although NetherRealm Studios has proven to be a very valuable study With Injustice 2 or Mortal Kombat 11 it made clear its good hand with the visual section, both made use of Unreal Engine 3. Yes, it’s surprising that such a powerful studio with Warner Bros. behind it makes use of a 2006 engine instead of its second most up-to-date version, even though its visuals have been amazing.

This graphic leap is going to take place in the face of Mortal Kombat 1, where the American studio will use Unreal Engine 4, and this is the reason for the absence, for the moment, of Injustice 3. Ed Boon, director of the studio, gave an interview to IGN where he advanced the following: “We were using Unreal 3 and a heavily modified Unreal 3, but Unreal 4 has opened the doors to many new features.”

Between the change of engine and the update of the work guidelines, added to COVID and its impact on society, the American study decided that all this would be better for a new Mortal Kombat, something like a letter of introduction to the team’s work. Still, the 59-year-old game designer makes it clear that Injustice is still on the table: “We said, okay, let’s do another Mortal Kombat game and hopefully we’ll get back to the Injustice games.”

Likewise, the potential leap from the studio to developing under Unreal Engine 5 is another possibility. Although these are issues that are not discussed right now, NetherRealm Studios is exploring the new options offered by the fourth version of the engine and, looking to the future, what UE5 can bring.
