Paper Rex entered the VALORANT Champions Playoffs as Group A’s top seed, displaying dominance by vanquishing Latin America’s KRÜ Esports and China’s EDward Gaming in the Group Stage. Conversely, FUT secured their position as the second seed of Group B.

In the thrilling encounter of the upper bracket quarterfinals, Paper Rex orchestrated a monumental comeback in the first game, followed by a dominating performance in the second game to clinch the series sweep.

The battle commenced with FUT taking a commanding lead in the first half of game one on Ascent, securing an 8-4 advantage as the Defending side. FUT’s strong defense yielded six consecutive round wins from rounds 6 to 11. However, Paper Rex’s remarkable resilience came to the fore after the sides switched, winning the first four rounds of the second half and equalizing the score at 8-8.

Despite FUT securing round 17, Paper Rex turned the tide with four consecutive rounds, securing a commanding 12-9 lead by round 21. While FUT managed to claim round 22, Paper Rex’s unwavering determination drove them to triumph, securing a remarkable 13-10 comeback victory in game one.

Paper Rex’s dynamic duo, Russian import Ilya “something” Petrov and Singaporean sensation Wang “Jinggg” Jing Jie, shone brightly in game one. Something showcased an impressive 24/13/4 KDA, while Jinggg contributed with a 21/15/2 performance, with both players recording four first kills each.

The momentum from game one propelled Paper Rex into game two on Pearl, where they secured a monumental lead of 10 consecutive rounds as the Attacking side, concluding the first half with an impressive 11-1 score. 

Although FUT displayed signs of revival in the second half, claiming three consecutive rounds from rounds 14 to 16, Paper Rex’s dominance remained unshaken. They clinched the series sweep with a convincing 13-4 victory in round 17, sealing their triumph on Pearl.

In game two, the standout performers for Paper Rex were Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee and Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto, amassing KDA scores of 20/9/11 and 17/10/3, respectively. Something continued to shine with a 15/9/1 KDA, including a game-high six first kills.

With their resounding triumph over FUT, Paper Rex advances to the upper bracket semifinals. They are set to clash with the VALORANT Champions 2022 winners, LOUD, on Sunday (20 August). Paper Rex’s performance guarantees them at least a Top 6 finish and a prize of USD 85,000.
