5 Games That Got Banned In USA In 2023 & Why?

1 years ago By AI Smith

While there are several video games successfully running in the USA markets today, there are some games that have been banned in the country for multiple reasons. Here are the top five games banned in USA.

Thrill Kills

The idea, graphics and better things about Thrill Kills did not get any attention, because of the bloody cast of serial killers, cannibals, and a suicidal dominatrix murdering each other to get out of Hell in the game. The blood and sexual content in Thrill Kill were the reasons for ESRB giving it the “Adults Only” rating. This led to the game being banned in the USA.

The Guy Game

The idea of The Guy Game combined Girl Gone Wild-style footage of women in San Padre Island with a trivia game. The game faced a lawsuit from one of the GGW participants claiming thatshe had not been informed that her footage would be used in the game. Additionally, she was just 17 years old at the time of filming her footage. The judge ruled out that all copies be recalled from the stores.

Active Shooter

Active Shooter was a first-person shooter game allowing players to take on the role of a gunman or a S.W.A.T. team member while a school shooting takes place. Trouble came in for this game when just months after its release, the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida incident followed by many similar incidents took place. Naturally it invited a lot of outcry causing the game to be banned in the USA.

X-Men: Destiny

The ban of X-Men: Destiny was because of conflict between the developers at Silicon Knights and Epic Games. The devs launched a lawsuit against Epic Games for breach of contract, and  “sabotaging efforts by Silicon Knights and others to develop their own video games” and not providing them with a functioning version of the Unreal 3 Engine. Later Silicon Knights finally got their hands on the engine despite Epic’s unwillingness. A North Carolina court in 2012 ruled that Epic Games had breached the contract. All copies were recalled and Silicon Knights was hit with $9.2 million in damages, which led to the studio’s bankruptcy.

Wild Buster

After Wild Buster’s release, the CEO sent out an email to its employees that asked them to buy copies on Steam and leave positive reviews. The email ended with: “Neglecting the importance of reviews will ultimately cost jobs.” The email was leaked on Reddit, and Steam banned Wild Busters and their other games.
