WWE 2K23 Latest Review: New Superstars added, Multiplayers, Key Changes & More

1 years ago By AI Smith

Visual Concepts and 2k Sports released WWE2K23 to the world back in March, and this edition doesn’t change much from previous from the last one, but this new edition of WWE 2K23 adds a lot more for players to do. The immediate comparison to last year’s WWE 2K22 is an obvious one, and fans familiar with the mechanics won’t find anything new on the playing field.

With six main modes and over 160 WWE wrestlers to unlock and play, there’s plenty of variety in this version of the 2K franchise. Where WWE2K23 differs from its predecessor in its strengthened and improved game modes. Creation Suite is much bigger, online multiplayer has been added to MyFACTION, plus MyRISE and MyGM have added a ton of new stuff, and Universe Mode offers even more options than before.

As with many annual sports releases, WWE2K23 ‘s gameplay is almost identical to the previous year’s edition. However, what wasn’t added to the game was certainly made up for with new things to do. 2K Showcase traces John Cena’s WWE career and allows players to recreate classic matches from within his 20-year career with the chance to change the past. Each match has a precursor video of the 16-time WWE Champion talking about his time in the ring and describing the pivotal moments of each match.

One of the most popular portions of the WWE2K franchise, the Creation Suite hasn’t changed much in the way of operations, but it has added a host of new items, accessories, parts, and customizations. This gives wrestlers even more ways to make their wrestlers, celebrities, or people look like their favourites. The social media community is already uploading and sharing hundreds of CAWs for fans to download and enjoy.

The MyGM mode in WWE2K23 also added a host of new improvements, including new GMs, new brands, and new match types. Players can choose from GM’s new stock which includes Mick Foley, Xavier Woods, Kurt Angle, Eric Bischoff, and Tyler Breeze. NXT 2.0 and WCW were added to the branding options along with Raw, Smackdown, and NXT from last year. Another new addition is the 4-player mode, where up to four different players can go head-to-head to prove who runs the best brand.

The most notable addition to WWE2K23 ‘s MyUniverse is the new Momentum system. Wrestlers can accumulate Momentum Points by winning matches that can then be spent on special events or used in the advanced rivalry system, which gives players more direct control over many of the “out of the ring” options. There is also an option to turn this off completely and take full control of your Universe. This has players decide every aspect of a match, rivalries, and events that happen in and out of the ring within their custom federation.

There’s a lot to enjoy in WWE2K23 this year, and the amount of new content should please those who already put in so many hours on the latest season. There are still some bugs within the actual gameplay elements that have plagued the series for years but with far fewer bugs than WWE 2K22. Improved crafting options, addictive blind packs and new MyFACTION online multiplayer mode, and even separate stories added to MyRISE for male and female superstars. A lot is going on this year and WWE2K23 is a great version for veterans and new players alike.

WWE2K23 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. An Xbox Series X/S code was provided for this review.
